2027 Festival Dates Announced!
The 2027 festival will be held on Sunday 12th to Friday 17th September with the welcome meeting on Saturday 11th and the presentation dinner on Friday 17th. We are pleased to have booked 6 days with Patrick Davis on Poseidon and Phil Curtis on Typhoon giving us a maximum of 16 places. 2026 Festival Report
Last week saw anglers gather for the 65th annual British Sea Angling Festival in Looe. Most were returning anglers despite last year’s Festival having been severely impaired by the weather, but we were very pleased to see 3 new faces. In stark contrast to 2025 we were able to fish all six days, braving the swells but enjoying dry and, for some of the time, sunny conditions. The Festival is based on points scored for different species and is conservation conscious with catches returned to the sea unless retained for the table or for bait. Particularly noticeable this year was the prevalence of small Comber, which have significantly increased in numbers since they were first noticed only 3 or 4 years ago. More welcome was a growing incidence of as yet small Red Bream which had been absent from the area for some years. Notable among the catches were some good sized Pollock and Ling with a few Black Bream, Red Gurnard, Bull Huss and a John Dory. Thanks are due to skippers Phil Curtis (Typhoon) and Pat Davis (Poseidon) for putting us on some productive marks and helping to make the week a great success.
The presentation evening on Friday took place at the Hannafore Point Hotel where trophies and certificates were presented by our President Armand Toms. The raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses and anglers themselves, raised £265 which was donated to Looe Lifeboats.
